Case Study
American School Health Association |
The American School Health Association unites the many professionals working in schools who are committed to safeguarding the health of school-aged children. The Association is a multidisciplinary organization of more than 2,000 administrators, counselors, health educators, physical educators, psychologists, school health coordinators, school nurses, school physicians, and social workers. Its mission is to protect and promote the health and well-being of children and youth through coordinated school health programs as a foundation for school success.

"From the administrator's end I find that setting up the ballot is very intuitive. After one training I was able to figure things out very easily with just a few questions here and there. People have told me that from the voting end, it's easy to follow and easy to read. There's no confusion."

Challenges |
| When the state of Ohio changed regulations to allow electronic voting for associations, the American School Health Association started searching for an online election solution for its 1,800 members. When they sent out the paper ballots, ASHA could not be sure that the voting process was secure. In addition, ASHA staffers spent too much valuable time on folding, stuffing, and mailing the ballots. |

Solutions |
| ASHA chose Votenet's eBallot solution for its ease of use and strong security measures. For both the officers' election and a vote on the bylaws, member voting was stronger than ever. "People have told me that from the voting end, it's easy to follow and easy to read. There's no confusion," says ASHA's Pamela Dean. |

Impact |
| Aside from assuring that the voting process was secure, ASHA reports that they realized cost savings in terms of staff time and printing costs. Another unintended benefit was the boost that the change gave to ASHA's reputation. "It makes it look more professional to our members," Dean says. "Switching to electronic voting seems like it's bringing ASHA into the 21st century." |
